Postwar Life: Employed for about 5 years at the McCormick reaper plant in Chicago; from there went to Colorado and operated a cattle ranch with his brother Frank; returned to Staunton in 1884 after spending 20 years in the west; membership application for Stonewall Jackson Camp No. 25 C. V. Staunton 04-16-13; honored with an illustrated scroll on his 100th birthday by citizens of Staunton; his home at 202 Thompson St. was noted for its flower garden which he tended until only a few years before his death; at death was Staunton's last Confederate veteran and last known survivor of 5th Va. obituary states he was a sharpshooter
